Riyadh: Preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan have reached their peak in Saudi Arabia, with cities—particularly Makkah—beautifully illuminated ahead of the sacred month.

According to reports, streets and neighborhoods have been adorned with colorful lights and traditional lanterns, creating a festive and spiritual atmosphere across the city. Decorative installations reflecting Islamic motifs and Ramadan greetings have been placed along major roads.

Meanwhile, several Middle Eastern countries have already announced the expected start date of Ramadan based on astronomical calculations.

Ramadan Date Announcements

Countries including Oman, Türkiye and Singapore have declared that the crescent moon is unlikely to be sighted on Tuesday, February 17.

Türkiye and Singapore announced that Thursday, February 19, will mark the first day of Ramadan, citing astronomical data indicating that moon sighting would not be possible on the traditionally designated observation day.

It is noteworthy that Türkiye determines the beginning of all Hijri months in advance based on astronomical calculations. According to the Presidency of Religious Affairs, calculations conducted on the 29th day showed that the crescent would not be visible anywhere in the Arab and Islamic world or in the Americas on February 17. Hence, February 19 has been set as the first day of Ramadan.

In Istanbul, the iconic Suleymaniye Mosque has illuminated its minarets with the message: “Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an,” adding to the spiritual ambiance.

As anticipation builds, Muslims across the region are preparing to observe the holy month with prayers, fasting and community gatherings.
