Shiv Pratap Shukla, the current Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana. The announcement was made late Thursday night through an official communiqué issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Shukla assumed office as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh on February 18, 2023, and will now take over the responsibilities as the Governor of Telangana.
Born on April 1, 1952, in Rudrapur village of Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh, Shukla has had a long and active political career. He completed his schooling in Rudrapur and later pursued higher education in Gorakhpur, where he obtained a degree in law.
In his early political years, Shukla worked as the organizational secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He formally joined the BJP in 1983.
Shukla entered electoral politics for the first time in 1989, when he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Gorakhpur City constituency. He continued his electoral success by winning the assembly elections again in 1991, 1993, and 1996.
During his political career in Uttar Pradesh, he served as a minister in the governments led by Kalyan Singh, Ram Prakash Gupta, and Rajnath Singh.
Shukla was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on June 10, 2016. Later, on September 3, 2017, he was appointed as Minister of State for Finance in the government led by Narendra Modi. He served as a Rajya Sabha member until July 2022.
The presidential communiqué also announced several other key gubernatorial appointments. R. N. Ravi, currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, presently the Governor of Kerala, will assume charge as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
In other appointments, Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland, while Syed Ata Hasnain will serve as the Governor of Bihar.
Kavinder Gupta, currently the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Vinai Kumar Saxena, the present Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will now serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
According to the official statement, these appointments will take effect from the dates on which the respective officials assume charge of their offices.
