SIR in Telangana Likely Soon, Know What Documents May Be Required

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Telangana is likely to be conducted soon. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has said that SIR will shortly be implemented in the remaining states, emphasising that accurate voter lists are the foundation of democracy. If SIR is taken up in Telangana, voters may be asked to submit specific documents, depending on their verification status.

Will Voters Need Documents During SIR?
Voters do not need to submit any documents during the counting stage. However, documents will be required if:
- Voter details are not mapped during the notice stage
- There is any issue in voter verification
- Linking through previous records is not possible
Voters can provide details of their own name or relatives’ names from the previous SIR in the counting form. Providing at least two matching details will help in mapping, and such voters will not be asked for additional documents.
Relatives Allowed for Mapping
For voter mapping, details of the following relatives can be used:
- Father
- Mother
- Grandfather (Mother)
- Grandmother (Mother)
- Grandfather (Father)
- Grandfather (Father)
Who Will Be Asked to Submit Documents?
Voters whose names cannot be linked through relatives (parental concept) will be asked at a later stage to submit documents during SIR in Telangana and other states.
List of Accepted Documents (Any One)
Eligible voters may be asked to submit one of the following 11 documents:
- Identity card or pension order issued to Central/State Government or PSU employee/pensioner
- Any government/local authority/bank/post office/LIC/PSU document issued before July 1, 1987
- Birth certificate issued by a competent authority
- Passport
- Matriculation or educational certificate
- Permanent residence certificate
- Forest Rights Certificate
- Caste certificate (OBC/SC/ST) issued by competent authority
- National Register of Citizens (where applicable)
- Family register prepared by State or Local authorities
- Government-issued land or house allotment certificate
For Aadhaar, Election Commission instructions issued on September 9, 2025, will apply.
Documents Based on Date of Birth
Document requirements depend on the voter’s date of birth:
- Born before July 1, 1987: Any one listed document
- Born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004: One personal document + one parent’s document
- Born after December 2, 2004: Documents of both parents required

Voters in Hyderabad and across Telangana are advised to keep relevant documents ready and ensure their voter details are accurate and updated to avoid issues during the SIR process.
