SIT Grills KCR for Over Four Hours; Here Are the Questions Asked

The SIT questioned former Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao for over four hours in the phone tapping case, focusing on decision-making, intelligence operations and alleged political misuse.

The investigation into the alleged phone tapping case, one of the most sensational controversies in Telangana politics, reached a critical phase on Sunday with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioning former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Over Four-Hour Interrogation at Nandinagar Residence

KCR was questioned for more than four and a half hours by a six-member SIT team at his Nandinagar residence in Hyderabad. The interrogation began around 3 pm and concluded later in the evening, with officials examining multiple aspects of the alleged surveillance operations during his tenure as Chief Minister.

Focus on Phone Tapping Orders and Decision-Making

According to sources, the SIT placed special emphasis on identifying who authorised the phone tapping and the chain of command involved in issuing such directions. Investigators reportedly questioned KCR directly on whether he personally instructed intelligence officials to tap phones and when the alleged surveillance first began.

The SIT also sought clarity on whether the phone tapping was carried out for security purposes or used for political objectives, including monitoring opposition leaders ahead of elections.

Scrutiny of Intelligence Chief Prabhakar Rao’s Tenure

The role of former Intelligence Chief Prabhakar Rao has emerged as a key focus of the investigation. SIT officials questioned KCR on the repeated extension of Prabhakar Rao’s tenure and the reasons for assigning him two key posts simultaneously, allegedly in violation of the administrative code.

Investigators are examining whether these decisions had any direct link to the phone tapping operation.

Questions on Alleged MLAs Poaching Case

The SIT also questioned KCR regarding the alleged attempts to poach BRS MLAs. Sources said investigators asked how the leadership became aware of attempts to lure party legislators and whether phone tapping equipment was procured using party funds instead of government resources.

Officials are reportedly probing whether party finances were diverted for the purchase of surveillance equipment.

Probe Into Electoral Bonds Angle

One of the most sensitive aspects of the investigation relates to electoral bonds. SIT officials are believed to have questioned why phone numbers of individuals who donated to the BRS through electoral bonds allegedly appeared on the tapping list.

This line of inquiry is being viewed as crucial in determining whether surveillance was conducted for political or financial gain.

Political Reactions and Rising Tensions

Given KCR’s age and security considerations, the SIT conducted the interrogation at his residence. Former ministers K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, Santosh Rao, along with legal experts, were present at Nandinagar during the questioning.

While Congress and BJP leaders have described the case as one of the biggest scams in Telangana’s history, BRS leaders have dismissed the probe as political vendetta. The investigation has triggered protests by BRS cadres across the state, further escalating political tensions.
