Anantapur: Doctors at KIMS Saveera Hospital have successfully performed a cochlear implant surgery on a 57-year-old woman suffering from severe hearing loss, marking a significant achievement in advanced medical care in the region.
According to ENT surgeon Dr. R. Raghavendra Reddy, the patient had been experiencing progressive hearing impairment for nearly a year. Despite using hearing aids, she saw no improvement, which affected her daily activities and professional life.
After a thorough evaluation, doctors recommended a cochlear implant as the most effective solution. The procedure was carried out on March 10 and was declared successful. The patient is currently recovering well and is expected to regain improved hearing ability.
Dr. Reddy highlighted that the hearing loss was age-related and stressed that cochlear implants are not limited to children, but can be effectively performed in adults regardless of age.
He also noted that this is the first such procedure conducted on a patient in this age group in the Rayalaseema region, representing a milestone in expanding access to advanced hearing care services.
