At least 27 students fell ill due to suspected food poisoning in two separate hostels in Telangana on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: At least 27 students fell ill due to suspected food poisoning in two separate hostels in Telangana on Wednesday. The incidents, reported from Suryapet and Narayanpet districts, have raised concerns about food safety in student accommodations.

Telangana: Five Students Affected in Suryapet

In Suryapet district headquarters, five students from a tribal welfare girls’ hostel fell sick after consuming lunch. Around 1 pm, they began experiencing severe vomiting and sought initial treatment at a nearby Urban Health Centre. As their condition did not improve, hostel authorities shifted them to a private hospital by 4 pm. Their health is now reported to be stable.

Despite the incident occurring in the afternoon, parents were not informed until evening, leading to frustration and concern. Additionally, they were not given details about the hospital where their children were being treated.

While hostel officials claimed that only one student had a fever and was given a tablet, some students reported that multiple students were taken to a private hospital for treatment. Following the incident, Tribal Welfare Officer Shankar visited the hostel to assess the situation and ensure the well-being of the students.

22 Students Fall Ill in Narayanpet

In a separate incident, 22 students from a hostel in Dhanwada, Narayanpet district, also suffered from food poisoning. Details regarding their health condition and medical treatment are still awaited.

Parents Raise Concerns Over Food Safety

Both incidents have led to an outcry from concerned parents, who questioned the food quality being provided in the hostels. They demanded stricter food safety regulations and immediate action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Authorities are expected to conduct thorough inspections of hostel kitchens to identify any lapses in hygiene and take necessary corrective measures. Further updates on the Narayanpet incident and official statements from authorities are awaited.
