Telangana Gets ‘Zero’ Again in BJP’s 12th Union Budget: Kavitha Questions Cooperative Federalism

Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha launched a sharp attack on the Centre, alleging that Telangana once again received nothing in the BJP government’s 12th Union Budget. Reacting on social media platform X, she said injustice and betrayal towards Telangana have become routine under the BJP over the last twelve years.

‘Is This Cooperative Federalism?’ Kavitha Asks Modi
Questioning the Centre’s approach, Kavitha asked whether this is what Prime Minister Narendra Modi means by cooperative federalism. She said that while the Prime Minister speaks frequently about federal cooperation, Telangana continues to face neglect in budgetary allocations.
Bifurcation Promises and Pending Funds
Kavitha expressed disappointment that funds promised at the time of state bifurcation and allocations for several key Telangana projects are still pending. She said the BJP leadership, which speaks of stability, discipline and development, must explain why Telangana is facing continuous discrimination.
‘Eight MPs, Zero in Return’
Highlighting the political contribution of the state, Kavitha said Telangana gave BJP eight Lok Sabha MPs, yet the state received “zero in return”. She alleged that instead of releasing due funds, the Centre is only handing over pending files.
Major Infrastructure Projects Left Unfunded
Kavitha pointed out that funds have been stopped for major infrastructure works, including:
- Regional Ring Road
- Highways and radial roads
She said these projects are estimated at ₹34,367 crore and are crucial for Telangana’s development.
Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 and Rail Projects Ignored
Kavitha said the Centre has failed to release its 50 percent share for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 expansion, despite repeated requests. She also alleged that approvals for new railway lines are being delayed and the Warangal Coach Factory project has been kept in limbo.
Education and Industry Commitments Still Pending
According to Kavitha, key institutional commitments such as:
- One IIM
- 16 Navodaya Vidyalayas
- 9 Kendriya Vidyalayas
are yet to be sanctioned for Telangana. She also accused the Centre of ignoring the Bayyaram Steel Factory, a major promise made during state bifurcation, and denying industrial incentives to the state.
‘Telangana’s Interests Being Suppressed’
Stating that the list of injustices against Telangana is long, Kalvakuntla Kavitha concluded by asking whether cooperative federalism means continuously suppressing Telangana’s interests. She said the people of the state will not remain silent over repeated neglect in successive Union Budgets.
