A Long-Pending Demand Fulfilled
The increase in superannuation age comes as a response to the longstanding demand from university faculty. Faculty members have been calling for this change for years, citing the growing issue of faculty shortages caused by frequent retirements.
The decision follows a comprehensive report from the Telangana Council of Higher Education, which identified the need for more faculty to meet the growing demands of higher education in the state. The report highlighted that the shortage of teaching staff was negatively impacting the quality of education.

Order Details
According to the official order, the enhanced superannuation age will apply to regular teachers working in state universities who are drawing the University Grants Commission (UGC) scale of pay. The order specifies that this new provision applies exclusively to the teaching faculty under the administrative control of the Higher Education Department in Telangana.
The move is expected to not only retain experienced and skilled faculty members for a longer duration but also help the state universities maintain a higher standard of education amidst the increasing demand for higher education.
