“Mahatma Gandhi taught the world the power of ‘satyagraha’ and led a historic, non-violent struggle for India’s independence. His principles of peace, truth, and selflessness continue to inspire generations. It is our duty to uphold his values and work towards a more just and inclusive society,” he said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Gandhi’s vision of truth and non-violence remains relevant in today’s world, particularly in addressing social conflicts and governance challenges.

Why is Martyrs’ Day Significant?

Every year, January 30 is observed as Martyrs’ Day in India to honor Mahatma Gandhi’s ultimate sacrifice. He was assassinated on this day in 1948 by Nathuram Godse while heading to a prayer meeting in Delhi. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of peace, tolerance, and non-violence in resolving conflicts.

Gandhi’s philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence) played a crucial role in India’s freedom movement, influencing global civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama. His approach to peaceful resistance continues to be a guiding principle for movements worldwide.

The Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi in Telangana

The state of Telangana has deep historical connections to Mahatma Gandhi’s principles. During India’s freedom struggle, many activists in the region followed his non-violent methods to protest against British rule and the oppressive feudal system of the time. Even today, his teachings inspire various social and political initiatives in the state.

Bapu Ghat in Hyderabad remains a symbolic site of remembrance, attracting visitors and leaders annually to reflect on Gandhi’s message. The Telangana government has also emphasized promoting Gandhian values through education, cultural programs, and social reforms.
