Telangana Reopens Gruha Jyothi and Mahalakshmi Schemes: Who Is Eligible and What Documents Are Required?

Telangana government reopens applications for Gruha Jyothi and Mahalakshmi schemes, allowing eligible beneficiaries and new ration card holders to apply again.

In a major pro-people move, the Telangana Government has reopened applications for the Gruha Jyothi and Mahalakshmi schemes, giving a fresh opportunity to all eligible beneficiaries who missed out earlier. The decision aims to ensure that no deserving household is left out of welfare benefits, officials said.

Fresh Chance for Missed Beneficiaries

The government clarified that many eligible families could not benefit earlier due to documentation gaps, technical issues, or other reasons. With processes streamlined, applicants can now reapply through mandal offices and municipal ward offices, where officials have been deployed to ensure a smooth, transparent, and timely application process.

New Ration Card Holders Also Eligible

Sharing details of the decision, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said that newly issued ration card holders are also eligible to apply for both schemes and receive benefits without delay.

What the Schemes Offer

Gruha Jyothi Scheme

  • Up to 200 units of free electricity per month
  • Major relief for poor and middle-class households
  • Helps reduce monthly power bills significantly

Mahalakshmi Scheme

  • LPG gas cylinder for just ₹500
  • Big support for women and homemakers
  • Eases the burden of rising fuel costs

Documents Required to Apply

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Ration card
  • Latest electricity bill
  • Gas passbook
  • Bank account details

Officials said applicants should ensure documents are complete to avoid delays.

Focus on the Poor and Low-Income Families

The government said the decision is especially aimed at poor, labour, and low-income families. Citizens are advised to visit their nearest mandal or municipal ward office within the stipulated time and submit applications with all required documents.

Strengthening Social Justice

With this step, the Telangana government said it is reinforcing social justice and inclusive growth, ensuring welfare reaches every eligible household. Authorities urged residents to use the opportunity and apply promptly to avail benefits.
