Telangana Municipal Polls Final Results: Congress Emerges Biggest Winner, Check Party-Wise Seat Tally

Congress wins majority of urban local bodies in Telangana municipal polls, capturing 64 municipalities and three corporations with high voter turnout across the state.

The ruling Congress party has emerged as the dominant force in the Telangana municipal elections, winning a majority of urban local bodies across the state. The results declared on Friday night show that Congress secured control over 64 out of 116 municipalities and three out of seven municipal corporations, marking a strong endorsement of its urban governance.

Congress Claims Clear Edge in Municipalities

According to the results:

  • Congress: Power in 64 municipalities
  • BRS: Won 13 municipalities
  • Forward Block: Won 1 municipality
  • No clear majority: In 38 municipalities

Congress leaders claimed victory in nearly 75% of the municipalities, though a strong showing by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) prevented a complete sweep.

Corporation Results: Congress Leads

The Congress party captured major corporations including:

  • Mancherial
  • Ramagundam
  • Nalgonda

The party was also leading in Mahabubnagar Corporation at the time of reporting.

In Kothagudem Corporation (60 divisions), Congress and Communist Party of India (CPI) won 22 seats each, with Congress describing it as a friendly contest.

BJP Emerges Strong in Select Corporations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), though unable to win any municipality outright, emerged as the single largest party in:

  • Karimnagar Corporation (30 seats in a 66-member body)
  • Nizamabad Corporation, winning 24 of 45 seats declared so far

Both Karimnagar and Nizamabad are among the Lok Sabha seats held by the BJP in Telangana.

Ward-wise and Division-wise Performance

Municipal Wards (2,996 total):

  • Congress: 1,526
  • BRS: 772
  • BJP: 326
  • AIMIM: 66
  • CPI (M) 13
  • Others: 256

Municipal Corporation Divisions (414 total):

  • Results declared in 378 divisions
  • Congress: 177 divisions
  • BRS: 57 divisions
  • BJP: 70 divisions
  • Others: 74 divisions

High Voter Turnout

The municipal elections recorded a strong public response:

  • Overall voter turnout: Over 73%
  • Municipalities: 75.88%
  • Municipal Corporations: 66.05%

Out of 52.17 lakh eligible voters, more than 38.09 lakh exercised their franchise across 123 urban local bodies.

Next Steps: Indirect Elections on Feb 16

  • Notification for Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, Mayors, and Deputy Mayors will be issued on Saturday
  • Newly elected councillors and corporators will take oath on February 16
  • Indirect polls for key posts will be held the same day

The Congress party’s strong performance in the Telangana municipal elections signals growing urban support, even as competition from BRS and BJP keeps the political landscape tightly contested.
