Telangana Urban Local Body Elections on Feb 11: Tight Security, Model Code Enforced, Silent Period Begins

Telangana Urban Local Body elections on February 11, 2026, will be held under tight police security, with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) strictly enforced across the state, except Hyderabad, officials said on Monday.

Polling will take place for 7 Municipal Corporations and 116 Municipalities, as authorities step up measures to ensure free, fair, and fear-free voting.

Model Code of Conduct in Force Across Telangana

The Model Code of Conduct has been in effect since January 27, 2026, in all police commissionerates and districts of Telangana, excluding Hyderabad.

As part of MCC enforcement:

• 1,183 licensed arms have been deposited
• 4,318 persons bound over for good behaviour
• 398 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) executed or recalled

Training programs for effective MCC implementation were conducted at SHO, Circle, Division, and Unit levels across the state.

Extensive Check Posts Set Up Along State Borders

To prevent illegal movement and election-related violations, police established multiple inter-state and inter-district check posts.

Border security details:

• 20 inter-state border check posts with four neighbouring states
• 18 interstate border-sharing units (including Wanaparthy water border)
• Telangana-side check posts:
  • Maharashtra – 5
  • Karnataka – 5
  • Andhra Pradesh – 8
  • Chhattisgarh – 2
• 55 inter-district and within-district BCPs
• 181 Flying Squads (FSTs) and 167 Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) deployed

Rs 3.09 Crore Seizures During MCC Period

Police reported large-scale seizures worth over Rs 3.09 crore during MCC enforcement, with 988 FIRs registered.

Breakdown of seizures:

• Cash: Rs 1.29 crore (4 FIRs)
• Liquor: Rs 1.21 crore (756 FIRs)
• Drugs: Rs 15.7 lakh (18 FIRs)
• Precious metals: Rs 28.69 lakh
• Freebies: Rs 13 lakh (13 FIRs)
• Total MCC-related FIRs: 142

Security Cover for Over 8,200 Polling Stations

The Telangana Police have arranged bandobust at 8,203 polling stations, categorized as:

• 1,302 hyper-sensitive
• 1,926 sensitive
• 4,975 normal

To strengthen deployment, around 3,000 personnel from outside departments including TGSP, Forest, Excise, CID, Legal Metrology, and other units have been pressed into service.

Silent Period Begins, Webcasting Ensured

The silent period began at 5 PM on February 9, 2026, with visible policing increased across urban areas.

Authorities have ensured:

• 100% webcasting inside all polling stations
• Outside webcasting at hyper-sensitive polling stations
