Tension at Osmania University as Women Students Stage Protest Over Hostel Issues

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Osmania University on Wednesday night after women students staged a protest alleging negligence and lack of basic facilities in the university hostels.

The protesting students staged a sit-in on the main road in front of the Arts College, accusing the hostel administration of insensitive behavior and failure to address longstanding infrastructure issues.

According to the students, the protest was triggered after the mother of a student from Mancherial district arrived on campus to visit her daughter but was denied permission to stay overnight at the hostel. The hostel staff reportedly insisted that she obtain written permission from the director, refusing to allow her entry during late hours.

The students alleged that the elderly woman was forced to wait outside the hostel for several hours amid mosquito infestation, despite repeated attempts to contact university authorities for intervention.

The protesters further claimed that the issue extends beyond accommodation policies, highlighting poor living conditions in the hostel. They complained about worms found in food served at the mess, irregular drinking water supply, frequent power cuts, and broken furniture, stating that such problems have become routine.

The students demanded that the hostel administration change its approach and make emergency arrangements to accommodate parents visiting in urgent situations. They also called for immediate repairs and upgrades to the mess and hostel infrastructure to ensure safe and dignified living conditions.

University authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
