55th KVS Regional Athletic Meet 2026-27 begins in Hyderabad

The 55th Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Regional Athletic Meet 2026-27 was inaugurated at the Makhan Singh Athletics Stadium, Artillery Centre, Golconda, marking the start of a three-day sporting event from April 27 to April 29.

Hyderabad: The 55th Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Regional Athletic Meet 2026-27 was inaugurated at the Makhan Singh Athletics Stadium, Artillery Centre, Golconda, marking the start of a three-day sporting event from April 27 to April 29.

The event is being hosted by PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 and No. 2 Golconda and has brought together around 370 student athletes — including 145 girls and 225 boys — from more than 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the Hyderabad region.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Brigadier Rahul Machral (SM), with Santosh Kumar N, Deputy Commissioner of KVS Hyderabad Region, attending as the Guest of Honour.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the colour party, followed by a green welcome initiative reflecting sustainability efforts. Students of KV No. 1 Golconda presented a welcome song, and Principal Suresh Katoch delivered the formal address.

A march past by participating contingents, torch lighting ceremony, and oath-taking ceremony highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries encouraged students to compete with integrity and determination. Brigadier Machral officially declared the meet open, marked by the release of tricolour balloons.

Competitions commenced soon after the ceremony.

Day 1 highlights:

  • In the U-19 boys’ 3000m race, Adarsh (KV No. 2 Nausena Bagh) won gold, followed by Abhijot (KV AFS Suryalanka) and Nikit (KV No. 2 Golconda).
  • In the U-19 girls’ 3000m event, Nagasaram Nikitha (KV Gachibowli) secured gold, with Diva Bihani (KV No. 2 Golconda) and Basava Yesessri Priya (KV No. 1 Vijayawada) finishing second and third respectively.
  • In the U-14 girls’ high jump, Anu Priya Kumari (KV SPV NPA Shivampally) won gold, while Vaishnavi Singh (KV No. 2 Nausena Bagh) took silver.
  • In the U-14 girls’ shot put, Sony Kuncham (KV Ongole) claimed gold, followed by Ramavath Veenitha (KV Miryalaguda) and Sandrani Teja Sri (KV No. 1 Nausena Bagh).

Certificates were distributed to winners by the dignitaries.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sunil Sharma, Principal of KV No. 2 Golconda, who appreciated the efforts of organisers, officials, and participants.

The meet aims to identify top performers who will represent the Hyderabad region at the upcoming KVS National Sports Meet 2026-27.
