A full-scale Flood Mock Exercise at Necklace Road, Hyderabad was successfully conducted to strengthen flood preparedness and emergency response mechanisms in the city. The exercise was organised by the Hyderabad District Administration in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The mock drill took place at the Viewpoint area of Necklace Road and simulated real-time flood response operations to assess readiness, coordination, and operational efficiency of multiple departments.

Flood Mock Drill Conducted Under IRS Framework

The exercise was conducted under the Incident Response System (IRS) framework, ensuring structured command and control during emergencies.

  • District Revenue Officer Venkatachary acted as the Incident Commander
  • Deputy Collector Ravi served as the Staging Area Manager
  • Field-level response activities were closely supervised and coordinated

The drill demonstrated effective mobilisation of resources, emergency rescue operations, and inter-departmental coordination during flood scenarios.

Several key departments actively participated in the Hyderabad flood mock exercise, including:

  • Civil Supplies, Animal Husbandry, Youth Services

The coordinated response highlighted the city’s preparedness to handle flood emergencies, especially in low-lying urban areas.

NDMA and Fire Services Officials Review Drill

The mock drill was reviewed by the NDMA State Observer (Brigadier) along with Vikram Singh Maan, Director General of Fire Services.

Officials interacted with field officers on:

  • Command and control mechanisms
  • Roles under the Disaster Management Act
  • Functional clarity of IRS positions

The observers provided practical suggestions to further enhance disaster response capabilities.

After the exercise, the NDMA team and DG Fire Services visited KIMS Hospital to review hospital-level disaster preparedness.

The review focused on:

  • Surge capacity and triage systems
  • Medical response coordination during flood situations

Valuable inputs were shared to strengthen hospital disaster management systems.
