HYDRAA to Expand ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ Training to Villages, Mobile Units Planned: Commissioner A.V. Ranganath

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath announces expansion of Yuva Aapda Mitra disaster response training to villages, with mobile units planned across Telangana.

Hyderabad: In a major step toward strengthening disaster preparedness, A.V. Ranganath, Commissioner of HYDRAA, announced that the ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ disaster response training programme will be expanded to district and village levels across Telangana. He also instructed officials to prepare mobile vehicles to take training and emergency response support closer to communities.

The Commissioner was speaking at the valedictory programme of the second batch of Yuva Aapda Mitra training, a volunteer initiative designed to provide immediate assistance during natural disasters and emergencies.

Youth Volunteers Key to Saving Lives During Disasters

Addressing the trainees, A.V. Ranganath said that participating in disaster response and saving lives is not an ordinary task. He noted that the spirit of service and concern for society is what makes these young volunteers “Yuva Aapda Mitras.”

He expressed happiness over the participation of 103 students from various colleges in Warangal, Karimnagar, and Rangareddy districts, calling their involvement encouraging for the future of community-based disaster management.

‘We Are There for You’: Confidence During Emergencies

The Commissioner said Yuva Aapda Mitras should give people the confidence that help is available during floods, fire accidents, and other natural calamities. He explained that these trained volunteers will work alongside the Disaster Response Force and various government departments during emergencies.

He urged the youth to think beyond themselves and their families, and to develop a sense of responsibility toward society, especially during crisis situations.

Hands-On Training in Fire, Flood, and CPR Response

Volunteers who completed the training said they received practical, hands-on knowledge on:

  • Types of fire accidents and safe escape methods
  • Rescue techniques during floods
  • CPR procedures during cardiac arrest or breathing emergencies

Many trainees said the focus on practical sessions helped them gain confidence and that they are ready to train others in their communities.

Demand to Expand HYDRAA Services Statewide

Several students appealed for HYDRAA services to be expanded beyond Hyderabad to district headquarters and across the state, stating that wider coverage would significantly improve disaster response and environmental protection.

They also said the one-week training programme helped them gain a clear understanding of HYDRAA’s role and activities.

Certificates Distributed to Trained Volunteers

At the end of the programme, Commissioner A.V. Ranganath distributed certificates to the Yuva Aapda Mitra volunteers who successfully completed the training. Senior HYDRAA officials and disaster management experts were also present at the event.

With plans to take the programme to villages and introduce mobile units, Yuva Aapda Mitra training is set to play a crucial role in reducing loss of life and property during disasters across Telangana.
