Former IPS Officer’s Wife Loses ₹2.58 Crore in Stock Market Cyber Fraud in Hyderabad

Former IPS officer’s wife lost ₹2.58 crore in a stock market cyber fraud in Hyderabad after being trapped by WhatsApp trading tips. Cyber Crime Police investigating.

A major cyber fraud case in Hyderabad has come to light after the wife of a former IPS officer was allegedly cheated of ₹2.58 crore by cyber criminals in the name of stock market investment. A complaint has been registered with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, and an investigation is currently underway.

WhatsApp Trading Tips Lead to Massive Cyber Fraud

According to the complaint, the cyber fraudsters initially contacted the victim through WhatsApp, offering stock market trading tips. They promised up to 500 per cent profit if their advice was followed.

To gain trust, the accused shared forged SEBI-certified documents and added the victim to a WhatsApp group that appeared professional and genuine. Due to lack of awareness about such scams, the victim believed the claims.

₹2.58 Crore Transferred in 19 Transactions

Believing the assurances of high returns, the victim invested large sums of money. In total, ₹2.58 crore was transferred through 19 separate transactions to accounts provided by the cyber criminals.

The fraudsters continued to encourage further investments, creating pressure and urgency to extract more money.

Threats After Investment Was Stopped

When the victim decided to stop further investments, the accused allegedly threatened her, claiming that her entire investment would be lost if payments were discontinued. This raised suspicion, following which the victim realised she had been cheated.

She then approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

Case Registered, Probe Underway

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused and recover the money. Officials are analysing bank transactions, digital trails, and WhatsApp communication linked to the fraud.

Police Warn Public Against Online Investment Scams

Cyber Crime Police have once again urged the public to remain cautious of:

  • WhatsApp or Telegram trading groups
  • Guaranteed high-return investment offers
  • Unverified stock market tips
  • Fake SEBI certificates

Authorities advised investors to verify credentials through official channels before investing any money online.

The Hyderabad cyber fraud case involving a former IPS officer’s wife serves as a strong reminder that even educated individuals can fall prey to sophisticated online scams.
