Wildlife Deaths Raise Alarm in Telangana: Deer Killed on Highway, Poachers’ Electric Trap Claims Two Animals

Wildlife deaths in Medchal and Vikarabad have raised concerns as a deer died after a road accident and two animals were killed by poachers’ electric traps, exposing safety lapses.

Hyderabad: Back-to-back incidents of wildlife deaths in Telangana have triggered serious concern over animal safety and forest protection. In separate cases reported from Medchal district and Vikarabad district, a deer was killed after a road accident due to alleged official negligence, while two wild animals died after being electrocuted by illegal traps laid by poachers.

The incidents have once again brought the spotlight on wildlife protection, forest department response, and growing threats to animals in forest and highway zones.

Deer Dies on National Highway in Medchal

A tragic incident was reported from Yellampet Municipality in Medchal district, near the Gajulamma temple on a national highway. A deer was hit by an unidentified vehicle and suffered severe injuries.

According to locals:

  • The injured deer struggled for nearly two hours
  • Residents immediately alerted forest officials
  • No timely response was received from the forest department
  • The deer eventually succumbed to injuries

Locals alleged that if officials had reached the spot in time, the animal’s life could have been saved. The delay has led to strong criticism of the authorities responsible for wildlife rescue.

Allegations of Forest Department Negligence

Residents expressed anger, stating that:

  • Forest officials failed to act despite repeated calls
  • Responsibility to protect wildlife was ignored
  • Awareness campaigns on wildlife safety remain only on paper

They demanded strict action against those responsible to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Poachers’ Electric Trap Kills Two Animals in Vikarabad

In another disturbing incident, two wild animals were killed in the Tattepally forest area of Peddemul mandal, Vikarabad district, near the Ambu Rameshwar Swamy temple.

Forest officials confirmed that:

  • Poachers laid illegal live electric wires to trap animals
  • A jackal and a wild boar were electrocuted on the spot
  • The trap was meant for hunting wild animals

Forest Officials Conduct On-Site Postmortem

Officials from the Forest Department rushed to the scene after receiving information. The bodies of both animals were recovered, and postmortem examinations were conducted at the site to confirm electrocution as the cause of death.

Search On for Poachers

The forest department has launched a search operation to trace the poachers involved in laying deadly electric traps. Officials warned that:

  • Wildlife hunting is a serious offense
  • Those involved will face strict legal action
  • Patrols in forest areas will be intensified

Growing Concern Over Wildlife Safety

These two incidents highlight:

  • Rising dangers to wildlife on highways
  • Continued use of illegal hunting methods
  • Gaps in timely response by authorities

Wildlife activists and locals are urging the government to strengthen roadside wildlife rescue systems, enhance forest surveillance, and ensure quick emergency response to protect animals.

Unless urgent measures are taken, experts warn that such avoidable wildlife deaths may continue across Telangana.
