HYDRAA Praised for Lake Development as Minister Sridhar Babu Inspects Uppal Nallacheruvu
IT Minister Sridhar Babu praised HYDRAA’s lake development efforts after inspecting Uppal Nallacheruvu, highlighting environmental protection, flood control, and public amenities.

Hyderabad: The development of Uppal Nallacheruvu lake has drawn praise from IT Minister Sridhar Babu, who said the work being carried out by HYDRAA is playing a key role in making Hyderabad an environment-friendly city.

The minister inspected the lake development works during his visit to Uppal and appreciated HYDRAA’s efforts in protecting and restoring lakes, nalas, parks, government lands, and public utility spaces.
Minister Reviews Lake Development Works at Uppal
The inspection took place during the launch of works under the SNDP project in Uppal. The minister visited Uppal Nallacheruvu along with local MLA Lakshma Reddy and MLC P Mahender Reddy.
During the visit:
- Officials explained how the lake is being developed
- 3D design models of the project were shown
- Details of landscaping and public facilities were reviewed
The minister interacted with Mohammad Younus, owner of the Vimose Technocrats firm supervising the works, and sought detailed information.
Focus on Environment and Flood Prevention
Sridhar Babu said lake development is crucial for:
- Flood prevention
- Environmental protection
- Biodiversity conservation
- Groundwater recharge
He said the government is giving high priority to lake restoration as part of long-term urban planning.
Attractive Front Elevation Along Main Road
The minister stressed that the front elevation of Uppal Nallacheruvu should look attractive, as the lake runs alongside the main Warangal road for nearly one kilometre.
Officials informed him that the project includes:
- Over 2 km walking track
- Children’s play area
- Seating spaces around the lake
- Green lawns and parks
- Open gym and fitness equipment for all age groups
- Diversion canals to prevent sewage water from entering the lake
Lake Area Expanded With HYDRAA Action
Due to encroachments, the lake area had earlier reduced to 55 acres. Officials said HYDRAA’s strict action helped restore and expand the lake to 69 acres.
Additional improvements include:
- Removal of 3 metres of silt
- Continuous monitoring by AV Ranganath
- A grand main entrance designed as a special attraction
Uppal Nallacheruvu Set to Become Major Public Space
With the ongoing works, Uppal Nallacheruvu lake development is expected to transform the area into a modern public recreation space, improving quality of life for residents.
