Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major heatwave warning for the Telugu states, predicting record temperatures in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. According to the weather department, temperatures may touch 47 degrees Celsius in several places, while severe heatwave conditions are expected in multiple districts and mandals. People have been strongly advised not to step out between 11 am and 4 pm due to the dangerous heat conditions.

IMD Predicts Severe Heatwave in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The southwest monsoon is likely to reach the Kerala coast within a week, but before any relief arrives, the heat intensity is expected to increase further across the Telugu states.

The IMD stated that the heatwave will continue in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the coming days. Temperatures are expected to rise further today, with several areas likely to witness extreme weather conditions.

According to the weather department:

  • Temperatures may rise up to 47 degrees Celsius in many places.
  • Severe heatwave conditions are expected in 47 mandals in Andhra Pradesh today.
  • Heatwave conditions are likely in 88 zones.

Red Alert Issued for Several Districts

Temperatures in Telangana are expected to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The IMD warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in north Telangana today and tomorrow.

A red alert has been issued for several districts in the Telugu states due to the dangerous weather conditions.

Authorities advised people:

  • Do not step out between 11 am and 4 pm.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Take precautions against dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

Heatwave Conditions Continue Across North India

The heatwave is not limited to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Several parts of North India are also witnessing extreme temperatures.

The IMD said temperatures in northern states are currently 3 to 5 degrees above normal.

A yellow alert has been issued for the next four days in:

  • Delhi
  • Rajasthan
  • Punjab
  • Haryana
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Chhattisgarh

Delhi Records High Temperature Early Morning

The IMD predicted that maximum temperatures could remain around 45 degrees Celsius for the next one week in several regions.

In Delhi, the temperature was already recorded at 36 degrees Celsius at 7 am.

According to the weather department, hot winds coming from Pakistan and Rajasthan are contributing to the intense heat conditions. The sun’s intensity is expected to increase further during afternoon hours.

Children, elderly people, and those working outdoors have been advised to take special precautions. Officials warned that nobody should go outside between 12 noon and 4 pm unless absolutely necessary.
