Hyderabad: Industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs highlighted the critical role of women entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in driving India’s economic growth during the World MSME Day 2026 celebrations held in Hyderabad.

Speaking on the theme “When Women Venture, Economies Grow,” T. Sujatha, Senior Director and Deputy CEO of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), said that nearly 90 per cent of women’s earnings are reinvested in their families, leading to improved healthcare, education, and overall social development.

She pointed out that women-led startups receive only about two per cent of global venture capital funding and called on policymakers and financial institutions to bridge the funding gap. Referring to Hyderabad’s thriving startup ecosystem and incubation centres such as T-Hub, she stressed the need for greater financial support to help innovative ideas evolve into successful businesses.

P. Srinivas, Chairman of the Confederation of MSMEs, Telangana, said MSMEs have immense potential to generate large-scale employment across both rural and urban India. He urged the government to introduce more supportive policies for women entrepreneurs, saying such initiatives would encourage greater participation of women in industry.

Former AIPC Chapter President Irfan Aziz described MSMEs as the backbone of India’s economic future, saying the sector is capable of addressing local challenges with globally relevant solutions. He noted that India has more than 63 million MSMEs, contributing nearly 30 per cent of the country’s GDP, accounting for approximately 45 per cent of exports, and providing employment to over 110 million people.

Shashank Pasupuleti, State Head of the MSME Vertical at AIPC Telangana, said MSMEs have the potential to transform India’s economy through innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship. Highlighting opportunities in the green economy, he said materials often considered waste, such as cow dung, can be converted into “Green Gold” by producing organic fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, vermicompost, bio-energy, and other eco-friendly products.

The event brought together policymakers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals to deliberate on innovation, sustainability, women’s entrepreneurship, and the future of MSMEs in India.
