Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Launches Fortified Rice Brand ‘KCP Nutri Poshan’ in Hyderabad

Telangana Minister for Irrigation & Command Area Development and Food & Civil Supplies, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Monday launched KCP Nutri Poshan, a new range of fortified rice enriched with eight essential micronutrients, at an event held at Park Hyatt in Banjara Hills.

The fortified rice range, available in popular varieties including Kolam, HMT and Sona Masuri, has been introduced to improve everyday nutrition and help address micronutrient deficiencies among consumers without requiring any changes to cooking methods or eating habits.

Speaking at the launch, Srree Vaishnavvi O, CEO of KCP Nutrritious Pvt. Ltd., said the company aims to make nutritious food more accessible for families. She said KCP Nutri Poshan has been designed to help consumers meet their daily nutritional requirements through a staple food that is already part of their daily diet. The company’s vision, she added, is to make fortified rice available in every household while encouraging healthier food choices.

Abhishek Shukla, Country Program Manager, Millers for Nutrition India, TechnoServe, highlighted the importance of increasing consumer awareness and retail availability of fortified foods. He said wider access to fortified staple foods can play a significant role in addressing nutrition gaps through everyday diets and stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders to expand the adoption of nutritious food products.

KCP Nutrritious will initially market the fortified rice across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh through traditional retail stores, modern trade outlets, e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms. The company also plans to conduct consumer awareness campaigns to educate the public about the benefits of food fortification and the role of fortified staples in improving nutritional outcomes.

The launch event concluded with expert-led knowledge-sharing sessions and a panel discussion featuring specialists from the nutrition, food processing and public health sectors.

KCP Nutrritious Pvt. Ltd. said it is committed to advancing nutrition through innovative fortified food solutions by delivering essential micronutrients through commonly consumed staple foods while maintaining quality and taste.

Millers for Nutrition is supported by a network of global and regional fortification partners and is powered by TechnoServe with funding support from the Gates Foundation.

Food fortification has been practised worldwide for decades, while fortified rice is emerging as an important category with the potential to improve nutritional security, particularly in rice-consuming states such as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
