Singareni Establishes Advanced Cath Lab at Godavarikhani to Strengthen Cardiac Care

In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Telangana's coal belt, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has established its first state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Laboratory at the Ramagundam-I Area Hospital in Godavarikhani.

Hyderabad/Godavarikhani: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Telangana’s coal belt, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has established its first state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Laboratory at the Ramagundam-I Area Hospital in Godavarikhani. The facility, developed following the State government’s directions, is ready for inauguration and is expected to provide timely, life-saving cardiac treatment to thousands of employees, their families and residents of neighbouring districts.

The Cath Lab has been set up within a year in line with the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu to make advanced super-specialty healthcare accessible to Singareni workers. Around 33,000 employees reside in the Godavarikhani region, making the facility a significant healthcare milestone for the coal belt.

The project has been developed at an estimated cost of nearly ₹50 crore under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with an expected annual expenditure of around ₹6 crore. The hospital’s cardiology wing spans 7,890 square feet and includes a five-bed Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU), a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a dedicated outpatient block and a fully equipped Cath Lab featuring international-standard technology.

The new facility is expected to eliminate the need for patients suffering from heart attacks to travel to Hyderabad, Karimnagar or Warangal for emergency treatment, ensuring that critical procedures such as coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting can be performed during the “Golden Hour”, significantly improving survival rates.

SCCL spends more than ₹300 crore annually on employee healthcare. During the previous year alone, nearly 3,000 employees and their family members with cardiac ailments had to be referred to corporate hospitals outside the coal belt. The company said the new Cath Lab reflects its commitment to providing advanced treatment closer to home and reducing delays in emergency care.

The facility is expected to benefit not only Singareni employees, retired workers and their families but also residents of Peddapalli, Mancherial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and surrounding districts. Advanced cardiac services will also be available to the general public at affordable rates based on Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) tariffs.

SCCL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kiran Raj Kumar said the Cath Lab has been established to ensure world-class cardiac treatment is available locally and expressed confidence that it would become a life-saving centre for the region by enabling emergency treatment without the need to shift patients to distant cities.
