Hyderabad: A delegation comprising journalists, public representatives and professionals met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharshan Reddy on July 15 to raise concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The delegation highlighted issues including deletion of voter names, spelling errors, difficulties in accessing 2002 electoral rolls, multilingual inconsistencies, inadequate awareness among Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and growing public anxiety over the continuity of names in the final electoral rolls. The CEO assured the delegation that all suggestions and grievances would be examined and appropriate action would be taken at the earliest.

Concerns Raised Over Electoral Roll Revision
The delegation highlighted multiple issues affecting voters, including:
- Deletion of names from electoral rolls, including those of one or two members of the delegation.
- Spelling errors in voter records.
- Difficulties in tracing voter details from the 2002 electoral rolls.
- Inconsistencies in multilingual entries.
- Inadequate awareness and training among a considerable number of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
- Growing anxiety among citizens regarding whether their names would continue in the final electoral rolls.
The delegation said an atmosphere of uncertainty currently exists, with many citizens unsure whether their names would remain on the voters’ list or be removed inadvertently.
Suggestions to Simplify Voter Enrolment
The delegation explained the practical and procedural challenges associated with the revision process and stressed the urgent need for corrective measures to safeguard every eligible citizen’s constitutional and democratic right to vote.
Among the key suggestions made were:
- Issuing a Permanent Residence Certificate for electoral purposes.
- Extending deadlines related to the voter revision process.
- Simplifying voter enrolment procedures, especially for senior citizens and digitally challenged voters.
The delegation said that a Permanent Residence Certificate would significantly reduce the burden on citizens while establishing their residential status for voting purposes.
CEO Assures Action
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy assured the delegation that all the suggestions and grievances raised during the meeting would be examined.
He said appropriate action would be taken at the earliest after reviewing the issues brought to his notice.
