NHRC Takes Strong Stand on Alleged Illegal Mining in Rajendranagar, Directs Action Over Raghava Constructions

Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reportedly taken serious note of allegations of illegal mining in the Manasa Hills area of Rajendranagar involving Raghava Constructions, a company linked to Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

The commission questioned how excavation activities could allegedly be carried out without the required permissions and raised concerns over whether different rules were being applied to ordinary citizens and companies associated with influential individuals.

The NHRC has reportedly recommended that the Centre take action under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) in connection with the allegations.

The commission also questioned the alleged silence of various government departments, including the Revenue Department, Mines and Geology Department, Telangana Pollution Control Board and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), over the reported mining activities.

The NHRC has directed the Union Ministry of Coal and Mines to take appropriate action and submit a report within eight weeks, according to the information available.

The issue concerns alleged quarrying and mining activities in the Manasa Hills area near Rajendranagar. Earlier, BRS leaders had accused Raghava Constructions of carrying out quarrying activities without mandatory statutory clearances.

Raghava Constructions has previously denied allegations of operating an illegal quarry, stating that it did not establish or operate a crusher at Kothwalguda and that crushed material was being sourced from another firm.

The NHRC’s latest action is expected to put renewed focus on the alleged mining activities and the role of various government agencies responsible for regulating mining and environmental compliance in the area.
