AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain Slams GHMC Over Incomplete Nala Desilting, Warns of Flood Risk in Nampally

AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain, along with AIMIM leaders and former corporator Zafar Khan, inspected Afzal Sagar Nala and other nalas in Nampally. He alleged that GHMC failed to complete desilting works before the monsoon and warned of flooding risks.

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA from Nampally Majid Hussain, along with other AIMIM leaders, former Mallepally corporator Zafar Khan, and the Zonal Commissioner of the Golconda Zone, inspected the Afzal Sagar Nala, Lakshmi Nagar Nala, and the nala near C Nam Nagar Colony in the Nampally area. Following the inspection, Majid Hussain addressed the media and alleged that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had failed to complete desilting works despite the arrival of the monsoon season.

Majid Hussain said the inspection was conducted on the directions of AIMIM President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi.

Majid Hussain Raises Concerns Over Incomplete Nala Desilting

Speaking to the media, Majid Hussain stated that the entire issue of incomplete desilting was brought to the notice of the Golconda Zone Commissioner during the inspection.

He said it was surprising that the monsoon season was already underway, but GHMC had still not completed desilting operations.

According to him, in several places, silt removed from inside the nalas had been left on the sides because GHMC had not yet provided contractors with designated dumping locations. As a result, contractors allegedly dumped the silt within the nala areas themselves.

Majid Hussain claimed that due to rainfall, the same silt was being washed back into the nalas, which could create difficulties for residents.

AIMIM MLA Says Two Major Rains Already Caused Flood-Like Situation

Majid Hussain said the monsoon had already started and that two major spells of rain had occurred.

He stated that people had witnessed a flood-like situation in several parts of the city during these rains.

According to him, this situation was occurring because GHMC had been “completely unsuccessful” this year in carrying out desilting of nalas, water ways, and cleaning storm water drains where work remained pending.

Commissioner Assures Completion of Pending Works

Majid Hussain said that a detailed inspection was conducted along with the Commissioner, who assured the delegation that all pending works would be taken up immediately.

He stated that the Commissioner had assured them that the unfinished works would be completed with full force and speed within seven to ten days, providing relief to residents before further heavy rains.
