Anganwadi Workers Allege Harassment and Misconduct by SI at Mahabubabad Police Station

Mahabubabad: Two Anganwadi workers from Donakonda village in Dantala Palli mandal of Mahabubabad district have alleged that they were subjected to rude and abusive behaviour by a Sub-Inspector when they approached the police station to lodge a complaint against a person allegedly harassing them while they were performing their duties.

The complainants, Anganwadi teacher Avula Manjula and helper Venkatalakshmi, reportedly approached the Dantala Palli police station seeking action against the person they alleged was troubling them during their official duties.

According to the women, Dantala Palli SI Ravikumar allegedly called them into his chamber and spoke to them and their husbands using abusive and indecent language. They further alleged that the SI threatened them with physical harm and humiliated them despite their status as women who had approached the police station seeking protection.

The alleged behaviour reportedly caused severe mental distress to Manjula. She allegedly became unconscious and collapsed following the incident. Her family members reportedly rushed her to a hospital, where she received medical treatment.

The women subsequently approached the Superintendent of Police (SP) and submitted a complaint seeking action against the SI. They alleged that the police officer failed to treat them with dignity when they came to lodge a complaint.

The victims also approached Thorrur Circle Inspector Ganesh, seeking action against SI Ravikumar. They reportedly demanded his suspension and stated that they would take an extreme step if action was not taken against the officer.

The allegations have raised concerns over the conduct of police personnel while dealing with women who approach police stations with complaints. The matter is expected to be examined by senior police officials, and further action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
