Bazarghat Fire: Heart-Wrenching Scene as Seven ‘Janazas’ of a Single Family Elicit Tears from Onlookers

Hyderabad: On the holiday of Deepavali, a joyous family gathering in Hyderabad took a devastating turn, transforming into a tragic incident that claimed the lives of seven family members due to a fire accident. The victims suffered from a combination of asphyxiation and severe burns, turning what should have been a celebratory holiday into an unimaginable sorrow.

The central figures in this heartbreaking incident were Mohammad Mukram and his family. Mukram, a dentist with his own clinic in the locality, dropped off his wife and three children at his parents’ residence in the Bazaar Guard area of Lakdikapul on the evening of Deepavali.

The residential apartment, the setting for this unfortunate event, housed Mukram’s parents, Mohammad Azam (57) and Rahman Sultana (50), Mukram’s wife Tahura Farheen (35), and their three children—Taroba (13), Manha (6), and Mohammad Talha (17). Also present were Azam’s two other children, Faiza Sameena (26), a nutritionist, and Haseb-ur-Rahman (32), whose wife was away at her mother’s home after recently giving birth.

According to a family friend, the household was described as harmonious, emphasizing Azam’s efforts to find a suitable match for his unmarried daughter Sameena. Meanwhile, Haseb-ur-Rahman’s wife and children were temporarily away due to the recent childbirth.

Among the grim aftermath, the 17-year-old Mohammad Talha emerged as the sole survivor of the family, albeit in critical condition. Talha, an intermediate second-year student at MS Junior College, Asif Nagar, suffered 75% burns and is currently undergoing treatment at the Acute Burns Care unit of Osmania General Hospital.

The surviving members of the family include Azam’s son-in-law Mohammad Mukram, Azam’s son Mohammad Anas (who works in Saudi Arabia), and Haseeb-ur-Rahman’s wife and children. Mohammad Anas, upon receiving the tragic news, rushed to Hyderabad from Saudi Arabia.

Majid Hussain, the Corporator of Mehdipatnam and AIMIM MLA contestant from Nampally constituency, reached the Osmania hospital mortuary on Monday afternoon.

Adding to the sorrow, the fire not only claimed the lives of the aforementioned family but also took the lives of an elderly couple residing on the third floor of the building—Mohammad Jakir Hussain (66) and his wife Nikhat Sultana (50). The extent of the tragedy expanded beyond one family, encompassing the loss of multiple lives in this devastating fire accident.
