Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted permission to the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to visit Sandeshkhali on Thursday.

The Court said Adhikari should abide to some restrictions in the restive areas of North 24 Parganas where Section 144 of CrPC has been enforced for over two weeks, court sources said.

The Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh was permitted to visit only two localities – Jeliakhalia and Halderpara – tomorrow, HC single judge bench of Kaushik Chanda said after considering the BJP leader fresh prayer.

The Judge said Suvendu should refrain from uttering provoking speeches there and must report to the local police station, the sources said.

Adhikari on February 20 visited Sandeshkhali following a Calcutta HC Order and he assured the people to visit again and meet them, who allegedly suffered sexual harassment and lost land to the musclemen under the leadership of Sahjahan Sheikh, who is now evading arrest.
