Cyberabad Traffic Police Catch 237 Drunk Drivers in Weekend Drive, Warn of 10-Year Jail Under BNS Section 105

Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 237 drunk driving offenders during a weekend enforcement drive and warned of up to 10 years' imprisonment under BNS Section 105 for fatal drunk driving accidents.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) apprehended 237 drunk driving offenders during a special weekend enforcement drive across Cyberabad. Cases were booked based on the offenders’ Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, and all those caught will be produced before the court. The Cyberabad Police also warned that anyone driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal accident will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

237 Drunk Driving Offenders Booked by Cyberabad Traffic Police

During the special weekend enforcement drive, the Cyberabad Traffic Police booked a total of 237 drunk driving cases.

The vehicles involved were:

  • 205 two-wheelers
  • 4 three-wheelers
  • 28 four-wheelers

The offenders were booked based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels.

BAC Levels of Offenders

According to the Cyberabad Traffic Police:

  • 219 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml
  • 5 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml
  • 13 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml

All the offenders will be produced before the court.

Cyberabad Police Warn of Strict Action Under BNS Section 105

The Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence.

The police stated that if any person is found driving in an intoxicated condition and causes a fatal accident, the individual will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder.

The maximum punishment under Section 105 of the BNS, 2023 is:

  • Up to 10 years of imprisonment
  • Fine

Court Disposes of 309 Drunk Driving Cases

The Cyberabad Traffic Police also released details of court disposals between July 13 and July 18.

During the period, the courts disposed of 309 drunk driving cases, with the following outcomes:

  • 5 persons received fine and jail
  • 1 person received fine and social service
  • 303 persons received fine only

The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 237 drunk driving offenders during a special weekend enforcement drive, with all accused set to be produced before the court. Police also warned that anyone causing a fatal accident while driving under the influence of alcohol will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, carrying a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine. The department also reported that courts disposed of 309 drunk driving cases between July 13 and July 18.
