‘When We Did It’, It Became a Problem: Delhi CM’s Remark on EVM Hacking and Allegations of BJP Vote Theft: Video

A recent statement by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on NDTV has stirred political debates across the capital. She remarked, “They (Congress) have been hacking EVMs for 70 years, but when we (BJP) did it, suddenly it became a problem.” Following her comment, many politicians and members of the public interpreted it as an acknowledgment of alleged vote manipulation by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to Gupta, voters’ choices have been undermined for decades, and now that BJP’s actions have come to light, it has caused widespread concern. Although she made the remark in a humorous tone, critics argue that such a statement from someone in her position naturally raises doubts among the public. On social media, several users commented that, even if inadvertently, it appears that the BJP has admitted to the act of vote theft.

On the other hand, some circles have questioned the accuracy of Gupta’s statement, pointing out that EVMs were first introduced in India in 1999. Since then, only 26 years have passed, during which Congress ruled for 10 years and the BJP for 16 years. During this period, parliamentary elections were held six times, with the BJP winning four and Congress two. Hence, claiming that Congress has been hacking EVMs for 70 years is seen as baseless and illogical.

Moreover, some observers have suggested that the video of the statement could potentially be AI-generated, raising further doubts about its authenticity. It remains to be seen how the opposition capitalizes on this statement politically or whether the matter will fade quietly.
