Divorce Rates Skyrocket in Saudi Arabia: One Every 10 Minutes

In Saudi Arabia, the Islamic world’s most influential country, recent data from the Kingdom’s Statistics Department reveals a staggering divorce rate. Reportedly, there are 168 divorces occurring daily, equating to one divorce every 10 minutes. This marks a significant spike from previous years, with a 19 percent increase in divorces compared to 2019. The total for the last months of 2022 alone stands at over 57 thousand divorces.

Social experts, interviewed by the Arab newspaper, attribute this rise to factors like excessive use of social media, leading to societal shifts that culminate in divorce. Economic hardships and suspicions between spouses are also identified as prominent contributors to the escalating divorce rate. Unfortunately, while experts shed light on the causes, no specific solutions to mitigate this trend were proposed.
