Ex-minister Chinmayanand acquitted in 13-yr-old rape case

Former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand was acquitted in a 13-year-old sexual assault case by an MP-MLA court in Shahjahanpur here in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, prosecution sources said here.

Shahjahanpur: Former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand was acquitted in a 13-year-old sexual assault case by an MP-MLA court in Shahjahanpur here in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, prosecution sources said here.

Prosecution sources said that a student of Mumuksh Ashram run by the former minister had levelled serious charge of sexual assault against Swami Chinmayanand, who is dean of the institute, after which a case was lodged on November 30, 2011.

Prosecution sources said that after investigation the police filed the charge sheet in the court and hearing in the case was being held in the court of Additional District Judge (MP-MLA) Ehsaan Hussain.

Prosecution sources said that after the hearing concluded the court acquitted Swami Chinmayanand, who served as Union Minister of State for Internal Affairs under Prime Minister A B Vajpayee. UNI XC AB SSP
