Fear Grips Uppal Bhagya at Night as Residents Demand Increased Police Patrolling

According to local residents, the Bhagya Layout near the Musi River has several vacant plots, unfinished buildings, dense vegetation and inadequate street lighting. As a result, the area becomes deserted at night, allegedly providing an opportunity for miscreants to gather and engage in suspicious activities.

Hyderabad: Residents of Uppal Bhagya and surrounding areas have expressed concern over the law and order situation in the locality, alleging that the area becomes unsafe after dark due to the activities of anti-social elements and suspected criminals.

According to local residents, the Bhagya Layout near the Musi River has several vacant plots, unfinished buildings, dense vegetation and inadequate street lighting. As a result, the area becomes deserted at night, allegedly providing an opportunity for miscreants to gather and engage in suspicious activities.

Residents claimed that some individuals roam the streets under the influence of alcohol and cannabis at night. They also alleged that certain people, sometimes wearing disguises, stop vehicles, intimidate commuters and attempt to snatch cash, mobile phones and jewellery.

Locals said several incidents have reportedly occurred in the area in the past. In one case, an IT employee was allegedly stopped and threatened, while another incident involved intoxicated individuals reportedly attacking a motorist. More recently, a car driver was allegedly stopped and harassed on the road.

Residents further alleged that some individuals stand at roads and key junctions in specific disguises, stop vehicles, misbehave with commuters and allegedly attempt to forcibly collect money. Some locals have also claimed that illegal activities are being carried out under the guise of such disguises, causing inconvenience and fear among families travelling through the area.

Residents believe that inadequate police patrolling has contributed to an increase in such activities in Uppal Bhagya. Although senior police officials have reportedly announced steps to strengthen surveillance in the area, locals claim that the impact of these measures is yet to be visible on the ground.

Citizens have urged the police to increase night-time patrolling in Uppal Bhagya and neighbouring areas, improve street lighting and take strict action against anti-social elements. They said stronger security measures are necessary to ensure that people can travel through the area without fear.
