Hijab row echoes in Andhra Pradesh too; Students denied entry

Vijayawada: After the hijab row has completely engulfed Karnataka state, where students are not allowed to enter the educational institutions wearing hijab, the controversy has now reached Andhra Pradesh, another neighbouring state of Telangana.

On Thursday, two students of Loyola College, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh were denied entry into the classes in burqa. While the students said they had ID cards in Burqa and they never faced any such issue previously, the college authorities claim hijab is allowed in classes but not burqa.

The video of two girls stopped by the staff of Andhra Loyola College went viral on social media.

Parents and community elders reached there and talked to college authorities. Police also reached the college. Showing their identity cards with burqa, the two students questioned why a problem is being created now while they were allowed previously. They argued that they have been coming to the college in prescribed uniform but wearing burqa over it but no objection was raised earlier.

On receipt of information, the Krishna district collector asked the college management to allow them to attend the classes.
