Hyderabad: Hospitality education is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising career pathways for young people, offering diverse and rewarding opportunities comparable to any other profession, said Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram.
He was addressing a conclave titled “Hotel Management and Culinary Arts – Gateway to Global Careers”, organized by the Telangana Association of Educators in Culinary and Hospitality (TEACH) in Hyderabad.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Molugaram highlighted the vast scope of the hospitality sector, which extends beyond hotels to include tourism, aviation, cruise tourism, healthcare hospitality, event management, luxury retail, and several allied industries.
He noted that Osmania University has been offering professional hospitality education through its affiliated colleges for more than three decades and has produced skilled professionals who are serving in leading organizations both in India and abroad.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the university regularly updates its curriculum to meet changing industry requirements by incorporating emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and global best practices.
Observing that hospitality and tourism are among the fastest-growing sectors worldwide, he said they continue to be major generators of employment. Referring to Telangana’s hospitality landscape, he pointed out that the state currently has only 23 five-star hotels despite significant growth potential and increasing investments in the sector.
“With the pace of development and investment in Telangana, the number of five-star hotels could double in the coming years, creating substantial employment opportunities,” he said.

Raj Bhattacharya, Director of Sales and Marketing at Radisson Blu Hotels, said the hospitality industry is currently facing a shortage of skilled manpower, particularly at the middle-management level. He noted that this gap presents significant opportunities for professionally trained graduates.
“The hospitality sector offers global mobility, rapid career advancement, and diverse employment opportunities beyond conventional hotel operations,” he said.
Chef Amey Marathe, President of the Telangana Chefs Association, highlighted the growing appeal of Culinary Arts as a career option. He said the increasing global demand for skilled culinary professionals has opened new avenues in entrepreneurship, innovation, international employment, and high-income careers.
TEACH President Saka Sudha Kumar stressed the urgent need for trained hospitality professionals in India. He said the country requires more than three million skilled workers in the hospitality sector, while only a fraction of that demand is met annually through educational institutions.
“There is a significant demand-supply gap in the hospitality workforce. Students should consider pursuing hospitality education through recognized institutions affiliated with Osmania University to take advantage of the growing opportunities in the sector,” he said.
The conclave brought together academicians, industry leaders, hospitality professionals, students, and career counsellors to discuss emerging trends and career opportunities in Hotel Management and Culinary Arts. The event also aimed to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry to better prepare students for global career opportunities in the hospitality sector.
