Huzurabad By-Elections likely after Dasara Festival: EC
Both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have demanded that the by-election be postponed and it should be held after Dasara festival.
Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has responded to the Huzurabad by-elections, which has become very prestigious in Telangana. The Election Commission has made it clear that the by-elections to Huzurabad and by-election Badwel in Kadapa of Andhra Pradesh will be held after Dasara Festival, most probably it may be in the month of October or November.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission of India has sought the opinion from the Chief Secretaries of both the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on August 30 and also sought the opinion of the respective Chief Electoral Officers.
Both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have demanded that the by-election be postponed and it should be held after Dasara festival. The Election Commission took the views of the respective states on the conduct of the elections.
The Election Commission said that the by-elections were being postponed due to Corona. Apart from Huzurabad, by-elections are also scheduled for Badwel Constituency of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh. However, the Election Commission has said that there will be no by-elections in these two constituencies at present.
The political equations in the state of Telangana have changed with the episode of Etela Rajender. Aftermath, the war like atmosphere arisen between the ruling TRS and BJP and these parties continue with criticism against each other. In return the TRS government is coming out with schemes to attract the voters which include the Dalit Bandhu scheme announced by the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Under these circumstances, it seems that the TRS Chief feels that if the Huzurabad by-election is held a little late, it will fetch political advantage to their party. (Munsif News Bureau)
