Hyderabad Metro to Upgrade 10 Stations Under Pilot Project to Improve Passenger Facilities

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has decided to modernise 10 metro stations under a pilot project aimed at improving passenger facilities and strengthening infrastructure at metro stations across the city.

The initiative will focus on enhancing passenger amenities, cleanliness, security, parking facilities and crowd management to ensure a safer and more comfortable travel experience for commuters.

On Monday, HMRL Additional Managing Director B. Ajit Reddy conducted a detailed inspection of key metro stations and surrounding roads in the city. Travelling by metro from Begumpet Metro Station, he visited Ameerpet and Raidurg stations and reviewed the platforms, concourse areas, street-level infrastructure and facilities available to passengers.

Metro engineers and representatives of operations partner Keolis were also present during the inspection. Officials reviewed operational systems, passenger movement during peak hours, security arrangements and existing facilities at the stations, and issued several important directions.

At Raidurg Metro Station, officials specifically assessed passenger movement around the Mindspace Junction and the skywalk connecting the station with the IT corridor. The Additional MD directed officials to implement more organised measures to manage crowds during peak hours and ensure that commuters do not face inconvenience.

Parking facilities around Begumpet, Ameerpet and Raidurg metro stations were also inspected. Officials were instructed to ensure effective utilisation of available parking space. Commercial establishments operating beneath the elevated metro corridor were also reviewed to ensure that business activities do not obstruct passenger movement or compromise security.

B. Ajit Reddy expressed displeasure over the poor maintenance of central medians between metro pillars and issued strict instructions to the concerned maintenance agencies. He directed them to maintain high standards of cleanliness, beautification and upkeep, stating that negligence in maintenance would not be tolerated.

He said that cleanliness, hygiene and security standards across the metro network would not be compromised and that providing passengers with a safe, comfortable and quality travel experience remains the top priority.

According to Hyderabad Metro authorities, 10 stations will initially be selected and developed as model stations under the pilot project. If the initiative proves successful, the model will be gradually implemented at other metro stations across the city.

Officials also said that the Additional Managing Director will conduct phased inspections of other metro stations in the coming days to review the progress of ongoing works related to cleanliness, security, parking and passenger amenities.
