Hyderabad Water Issue: Zafar Khan Leads Inspection in Mallepally, Officials Confirm Water is Not Polluted

Hyderabad officials inspect yellow water complaints in Mallepally, Agapura and nearby areas. HMWSSB confirms water is safe and not polluted.

Hyderabad: Following continuous complaints of yellow and suspected polluted water supply in Hyderabad, a field inspection was conducted in Mallepally and surrounding areas. The inspection was led by former corporator Zafar Khan along with officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board during early morning water supply hours.

Residents from Agapura, Afzalsagar, Habeebnagar, and Sitarambagh Ground had reported yellow-colored drinking water for the past 15 days, raising concerns about safety.

Early Morning Door-to-Door Water Inspection Conducted

Acting on public complaints, the team carried out a detailed inspection:

  • Door-to-door visits were conducted in affected colonies
  • Water supply was checked directly from household taps
  • Chlorine testing was performed on-site
  • Quality Control officers were present
  • Water samples collected for laboratory testing

The inspection covered key localities including:

  • Mallepally
  • Aghapura
  • Afzalsagar
  • Habeebnagar
  • Sitarambagh
  • Mujahid Ground, Pani Ground, Moghal Ground, Dhobi Ghat

Reason for Yellow Water Explained by Officials

According to the Water Works department and HMWSSB officials:

  • The yellow color in water is due to sediments from lower layers of Gandipet (Osman Sagar)
  • It is not due to contamination or sewage mixing
  • The water is safe for drinking as per initial assessment

Officials clarified that the issue is temporary and caused by natural sediment disturbance.

Zafar Khan Assures Residents on Water Safety

Speaking to media, Zafar Khan said:

  • The team inspected all affected areas personally
  • Officials confirmed the water is not polluted
  • Residents can safely consume the water
  • The color issue will reduce in the next 2–4 water supply cycles

Precautionary Measures Taken by Authorities

  • Chlorination of water supply has been carried out
  • Samples have been sent to the laboratory for detailed testing
  • Continuous monitoring will be done until normal conditions are restored
