Hyderabad: Hyderabad today witnessed a rare celestial phenomenon “Zero Shadow Day” at 12:12 pm.
This occurs when the sun’s position is directly overhead, as a result it casts no shadow on vertical objects.
Several Hyderabad residents posted photos and videos, captured by them, when there was no shadow from sunlight, on their social media handles.
During the event, the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, resulting in the reduction of the length of the shadow. When we stand on the shadow, our own shadow becomes invisible, hence the term “Zero Shadow”.
The phenomenon occurs twice a year, where the Sun’s position is directly overhead, casting no shadows on the Earth’s surface.
PTI quoted, astrophysicist Debiprosad Duari as saying, “People and any object, all around the world, staying between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn lose their shadows, though momentarily, twice a year. These two moments are called zero shadow moments.”
