Hyderabad’s Nizam College student loses Rs 92 lakh in online game

Rangareddy: A farmer’s son lost Rs 92 lakh in an online game. The money was received by the farmer as compensation for the land acquired by the government. But his son gambled away the money in an online casino.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Telangana’s Rangareddy district near Hyderabad.

The farmer wanted to buy half acre land at Mallapur in Shamsabad mandal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Entering into an agreement for Rs 70 lakh he had already paid Rs 20 lakh as advance. He deposited the remaining amount in his and his wife’s bank accounts.

Farmer’s son Harshvardhan Reddy, who had become addicted to playing online games, transferred the money from his father’s account to his account telling him that he would pay it to the land owner. The 19-year-old, a first year degree student at Hyderabad’s Nizam College, told the same to her mother and made her withdraw the money from her account.

The youngster started putting in the money in installments on online casinos. He gradually lost the entire money within few weeks. His parents were shell-shocked when he admitted to gambling it away as they enquired about the money.

The youth also reportedly borrowed Rs 7 lakh from some people in the village for gambling.

Harsh’s father approached Cyberabad Police Commissionerate with a request to help them in getting back the money.
