Hyderabad: HYDRAA on Tuesday removed encroachments at Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu in the Uppal Assembly constituency, reclaiming 2,180 square yards as part of the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) restoration. The operation included the removal of a G+2 commercial building under construction spread over 1,900 square yards and an auto garage covering 280 square yards, clearing obstacles to the ongoing Rs.19 crore lake development project.

HYDRAA Clears Encroachments at Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu
According to HYDRAA, Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu has an FTL area of 30 acres, of which nearly 16 acres had been encroached upon.
Officials stated that:
- 12 acres were occupied by permanent structures.
- The remaining 4 acres had temporary sheds and huts.
Instead of removing the permanent structures, HYDRAA recommended that people living in the temporary sheds and huts be allotted double-bedroom houses.
2,180 Sq Yards Brought Back Within Lake Boundary
As part of the drive, HYDRAA removed:
- A G+2 commercial building under construction spread over 1,900 square yards.
- An auto garage spread over 280 square yards.
With this action, a total of 2,180 square yards was brought back within the FTL limits of Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu.
Double-Bedroom Houses Recommended for Hut Dwellers
According to the press note, families living in temporary huts around the lake used to face severe hardship every year when the lake filled during the monsoon, as their huts were prone to flooding.
The residents, many of whom earn their livelihood through garbage collection and daily wage labour, were recommended by HYDRAA for double-bedroom houses.
The press note stated that the government responded positively to the recommendation and took steps to give priority to the allotment of these houses.
Rs.19 Crore Lake Development Project Gets a Boost
HYDRAA stated that the removal of the encroachments has cleared obstacles to the FTL expansion works being undertaken as part of the Rs.19 crore Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu development project.
The action will also help in carrying out elevation works under the lake restoration project.
