Hyderabad: An illegal racket involving ration rice is thriving in the Chevella division, with many exploiting government welfare schemes for personal gain. Some ineligible individuals have secured white ration cards by falsely claiming eligibility, hoping to benefit from schemes like Aarogya Sri and other government programs.
While the government provides free rice to white ration cardholders through fair price shops, many economically well-off individuals are misusing this provision. Instead of using the rice, they are handing it over to ration mafia gangs in exchange for money.
These mafia groups have hired workers on salaries to collect rice from households, offering beneficiaries Rs. 10 per kilogram. Once collected, the rice is transported to neighboring states, where it is recycled, polished, and sold at higher prices, ranging from Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 per kilogram.
This illegal activity is undermining the welfare schemes aimed at helping the poor and raising concerns about the misuse of public resources meant for the underprivileged.
