Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar warns against extortion and ransom, announcing action under MCOCA for those involved in illegal activities during development works in Beed.
Mumbai: In a recent statement, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president, Ajit Pawar, issued a stern warning to his party workers, stating that anyone involved in extortion or ransom activities during development projects would face severe legal action under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

The warning came during his maiden visit to Beed following the appointment of district guardian ministers.
Zero Tolerance for Extortion and Ransom
Ajit Pawar’s strong remarks came amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the brutal murder of Massajog sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh, and the involvement of Dhananjay Munde’s confidant, Walmik Karad, in the extortion-linked case.
He emphasized that no party worker or citizen should be involved in extorting money during development work, reinforcing that any such activities would be met with stringent legal action, including the possibility of being booked under MCOCA.
The Deputy Chief Minister made it clear that this warning was aimed at safeguarding Beed from illegal practices during ongoing development works.
He assured the public that strict action would be taken if any factual evidence came to light regarding corruption or violence related to the case.
Use of Firearms and Social Media Reels
Ajit Pawar also addressed the growing concern over the reckless use of firearms for show-off on social media. He referred to viral videos and photos of people using revolvers irresponsibly in Beed, either shooting in the air or walking around displaying their weapons.
He expressed his frustration with such behavior, stating that those found engaging in such acts would have their revolver licenses revoked. “Revolvers are for personal protection, not for display,” said Pawar.
He directed the police to take immediate action against those involved in such reckless activities, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated under his watch. This move is seen as an effort to bring accountability to the use of firearms and prevent the glorification of violence on social media.
Development Works and Focus on Local Governance
During his visit, Ajit Pawar also outlined his priorities for the district’s development. He stated that he would work alongside local representatives, including cabinet ministers Dhananjay Munde and Pankaja Munde, to ensure equitable development.
However, he cautioned against any attempts to create division within the local governance structure, stressing that the development agenda should be driven by transparency and fairness.
Furthermore, Pawar expressed his commitment to improving Beed’s infrastructure, with an emphasis on making effective use of public funds.

He urged local officials to focus on utilizing limited resources efficiently and ensure that no corruption taints the development process. He also outlined plans to seek more funding from the Centre to address the common man’s issues and strengthen local governance.
A Call for NCP Party Workers to Uphold Secular Ideals
As the party prepares for upcoming local and civic body elections, Ajit Pawar urged NCP workers to maintain a clean image and stay committed to the party’s secular ideology.
Reflecting on the legacy of Yashwantrao Chavan, Pawar called on the party workers to work towards the development of Beed, dispelling negative perceptions created by the media.
He encouraged them to actively engage in the party’s membership drive and play a crucial role in the success of the NCP and Mahayuti alliance in future elections.
