Major Reshuffle in Telangana: High-Level Transfers Ahead of State Assembly Elections
The most notable among the transfers is the reassignment of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, who has been at the forefront of maintaining law and order in the state capital.
Hyderabad: In a surprising and significant development ahead of the Telangana State Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has ordered a major reshuffle within the state’s bureaucracy. Thirteen top police officers, one IAS officer, and four Collectors have been transferred in a bid to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.
Top Police Officers Shuffled
The most notable among the transfers is the reassignment of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, who has been at the forefront of maintaining law and order in the state capital. The Commissioner’s transfer has taken immediate effect, sending ripples through the administrative circles.
Similarly, Warangal Commissioner A V Ranganath and Nizamabad police chief V Satyanarayana have also been transferred to new postings as part of this reshuffle.
In addition to these high-profile transfers, a list of Superintendents of Police (SPs) has also witnessed a reshuffling. The following SPs have been assigned new responsibilities:
- SP Sangareddy – M Ramana
- SP Kamareddy – B Srinivas Reddy
- SP Jagityal – A Bhaskar
- SP Mahabubnagar – K Narasimha
- SP Nagarkurnool – K Manohar
- SP Jogulamba Gadwal – K Srujana
- SP Mahabubabad – G Chandramohan
- SP Narayanpet – N Venkateshwarulu
- SP Jayashankar Bhupalapally – P Karunakar
- SP Suryapet – Rajender Prasad
Collector Transfers
In addition to the police reshuffle, four district Collectors have also been reassigned to different districts:
- Rangareddy – B Bhoopal Reddy
- Medchal Malkajgiri – D Amoy Kumar
- Yadadri Bhuvangiri – Vinay Krishna Reddy
- Nirmal – Vishnu Reddy
IAS officer Md Musharraf Ali Faruqui, who had recently taken on the role of Director of Excise and Prohibition, has also been transferred to a new position.
Election Work Prohibition
The Election Commission of India has issued a directive stating that the transferred officials should not be assigned any election-related responsibilities until the completion of the state elections in 2023.
Immediate Administrative Changes
The Chief Secretary has been instructed to submit a panel of three IPS officers for the new Commissioner of Police (CPs) and SPs by 5 PM on October 12, 2023.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary of Telangana will assume additional charges of the Excise, Commercial Taxes, and Endowment departments. A full-time Principal Secretary for Excise, Commercial Taxes, and Endowment has been directed to be appointed immediately to monitor the flow of liquor, drugs, and election-related freebies on a daily basis.
Furthermore, the Director of Excise and Prohibition Commissioner, T. K Sri Devi, has also been transferred out of the department, and Secretary of the Department of Transport, K S Srinivas Raju, has been asked to vacate the office with immediate effect.
This major administrative reshuffle comes as the state prepares for the crucial assembly elections, and these transfers are expected to have far-reaching implications in the run-up to the polls.
