Mumbai: One person has been arrested in connection with the horrific rape and brutalization of a 30-year-old lady in Mumbai late Thursday night, Police said on Friday.
According to police, the accused allegedly forced a rod into the woman’s genitals after rapping her in Sakinaka’s Khirani Road neighbourhood before fleeing.
Senior Police Inspector Balwant Deshmukh of the Sakinaka Police Station said that the accused, Madhu Chavan, 45, a local, has been arrested and is being interrogated in connection with the heinous murder.
The woman, who was found bleeding profusely, was transferred to the BMC’s Rajawadi Hospital in a severe condition, but Deshmukh declined to comment on her condition, adding only that “she remains under treatment.”
Top police officers hurried to the scene to conduct investigations and apprehend those responsible for the crime, which occurred on the eve of the state’s largest celebration, Ganeshotsav, which began on Friday. (IANS)
