In a devastating road accident near Madinah, Saudi Arabia, 42 pilgrims from Hyderabad lost their lives when their bus caught fire after colliding with an oil tanker. Among the passengers, 24-year-old Mohammed Abdul Shoeb was the only person who survived the tragedy. In total, 45 people died in the incident, including 42 from Hyderabad. The accident occurred in the early hours of November 17 while the group was traveling from Mecca to Madinah after completing Umrah.

According to available information, Abdul Shoeb was unable to sleep during the journey and decided to change his seat. He moved to the front of the bus and sat beside the driver to pass time through conversation. Moments later, their bus collided with a speeding oil tanker, triggering an intense blaze that engulfed the vehicle. Within minutes, the fire claimed the lives of almost everyone on board. Shoeb managed to escape by jumping out of the window just seconds before the flames spread. The other passengers had no time to react or flee.

Around 5:30 a.m., Shoeb managed to call a close relative in Hyderabad. Mohammed Tehseen, a family member, said that Shoeb informed him about the accident and told him that no one else had survived. After the brief call, Shoeb’s phone became unreachable. On Sunday, the Consul General visited him at the hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Shoeb is a resident of Nataraj Nagar in the Asif Nagar constituency of Hyderabad and works in a private company. He had travelled to Saudi Arabia with his parents for the Umrah pilgrimage. Tragically, his parents were among those who died in the accident.

The incident has left the community in deep shock, with families in Hyderabad mourning the loss of their loved ones.
