Telangana BRS Leader Appeals to Congress Government to Establish Deadlines for Fulfilling Minority Promises
In a media statement here on Wednesday, he highlighted that the Congress party had made 420 promises, including 12 major commitments to Muslims through a separate Minorities Declaration.
Hyderabad: BRS senior leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail called upon the Congress government to establish clear deadlines for fulfilling specific promises made during the Assembly elections.
In a media statement here on Wednesday, he highlighted that the Congress party had made 420 promises, including 12 major commitments to Muslims through a separate Minorities Declaration.
Abdullah Sohail expressed concern that, despite being in power for over 50 days, the government has not provided a timeline for the fulfilment of these pledges.
Sohail emphasised the need for clarity on whether the Congress government plans to include minorities in the caste census. The first promise in the Minorities Declaration guarantees a caste census within six months, ensuring fair reservation for backward classes, including minorities, in jobs, education, and government welfare schemes.
Sohail urged the government to clarify its stance on treating Muslims, Christians, and other minorities as backward classes (BCs) in the census, as linking BCs with minorities could have constitutional implications.
Furthermore, Abdullah Sohail called for the allocation of Rs 4,000 crore for minorities’ welfare in the upcoming budget, as promised in the manifesto.
He urged the passage of the bill to introduce the Minorities Sub-Plan during the next budget session of the Telangana Legislature.
Sohail pressed for the Congress Government to declare deadlines for other promises, such as providing Rs. 1,000 crores annually for subsidised loans to unemployed minority youth and women, implementing the Abdul Kalam Taufa-e-Taleem scheme, conducting a special DSC for recruiting Urdu Medium teachers, and ensuring a monthly honorarium for priests from all religions.
Additionally, Sohail insisted that the promised amendment to ‘The Telangana State Minorities Commission Act, 1998,’ making it a permanent body, should be completed in the upcoming budget session.
Criticising Congress leaders for not providing deadlines and accusing them of diverting attention from relevant issues, Abdullah Sohail stressed the need to continue minority-focused schemes without politicisation, highlighting the successful implementation of numerous schemes by the previous BRS government that benefited lakhs of minorities.
