Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to prepare a Telangana Family Register and issue a Family Register Certificate (FRC) to ensure accurate family information during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. The Revenue Department has issued GO No. 172 for the initiative. Under the new system, the certificate will be issued through MeeSeva centres within two days. The government has clarified that families without a ration card must first obtain one before they can be enrolled in the Family Register.

Family Register Certificate to Be Issued Through MeeSeva
According to the government, the Family Register Certificate will be available through MeeSeva centres within two days.
The objective of issuing the certificate is to:
- Create a standardized electronic record of families.
- Make government services faster and more transparent.
- Provide a single authenticated source of family information for different government departments.
Important for Voter Verification
The decision is considered significant for voters because the Election Commission has recognized the Family Register Certificate as one of the 12 valid documents for voter verification.
Until now, Telangana did not issue this certificate, creating difficulties for families that lacked other accepted documents during the voter verification process.

Ration Card Will Be the Basis of the Family Register
The Telangana government has clarified that no new survey will be conducted to prepare the Family Register.
Instead, the Department of Civil Supplies will use the existing ration card database as the foundation.
All individuals listed in a ration card will automatically be included in the electronic Family Register.
The ration card number will also serve as the Family Register Certificate Identification Number (FRC ID).
Ration Card Mandatory for Families Without One
The government has clearly stated that families without a ration card must first obtain a ration card before they can register in the Family Register.
Without a ration card, enrollment in the Family Register will not be possible.
Details Included in the Family Register
The Family Register will include:
- Name of the head of the family
- Names of all family members
- Relationship with the head of the family
- Age
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Aadhaar number
- House number
- Village or ward
- Gram Panchayat or Municipality
- Mandal
- District
- Other relevant family details
Certificate Not Proof of Property or Inheritance
The Telangana government has clarified that the Family Register Certificate will not serve as proof of property ownership or inheritance rights.
It will only be used for verification of family information and for availing government services.
