The scheme is part of a series of welfare initiatives recently introduced by the Congress Government, including Bal Bharosa for children and Pranamam for senior citizens, reinforcing the government’s focus on social welfare and public health.
Breakfast Scheme for Anganwadi Children: Key Highlights
Under the new initiative, children attending Anganwadi centres will be provided morning breakfast (tiffin) on a regular basis. The government believes this will significantly boost children’s immunity and help those suffering from malnutrition.
Key points of the scheme:
- Breakfast to be served in Anganwadi centres
- Launch expected in February
- 970 Anganwadi centres in Hyderabad to be covered in the first phase
- Around 15,000 children to benefit initially
- Expansion planned to 35,781 Anganwadi centres statewide
- Nearly 8 lakh children expected to benefit across Telangana
Pilot Project in Hyderabad
The breakfast scheme will first be implemented on an experimental basis in select Anganwadi centres located in Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Nampally, Charminar and Golconda areas of Hyderabad. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out across the entire state.
Officials said preparations are underway to ensure smooth implementation, with special focus on quality, hygiene and nutrition.
What Will Be Served as Breakfast?
The Telangana government has already finalized the menu for Anganwadi breakfast. Children will be served nutritious and simple tiffins such as:
- Khichdi
- Upma
Different items will be served on different days to maintain variety. The food will be supplied through TG Foods, ensuring quality and nutritional standards.
Added Nutrition Along with Existing Schemes
The state is already implementing welfare programs like the mid-day meal scheme and Bal Amrutham for Anganwadi children. The new breakfast scheme will act as an additional nutritional support, helping children start their day with healthy food.
Originally planned for this month, the launch was postponed due to the government’s focus on Medaram Jathara arrangements. The scheme is now scheduled for February and is being prepared as a prestigious flagship initiative of the Telangana government.
With the breakfast scheme for Anganwadi children, the Congress Government aims to create a strong foundation for child health and development across Telangana.
